The average house price in Somerset was £238,682 an, increase of 6.1% on the previous year. The average house price in the second quarter of 2017 was £243,664, a fall of 1.8% on the previous quarter. Mendip had the highest price of all the districts.

Over the period since the launch of the scheme (1st April 2013 to 31st December 2016) 1,888 properties were purchased within Somerset with the Equity scheme. Taunton Deane had the highest number of properties purchased using the scheme.
Affordability
House prices in Somerset are high in relation to earnings. All the districts have median ratios higher than the National figure. The lower quartile house prices, West Somerset has the highest with 10.18 times greater than the lower quartile earnings.
In 2017 Q2 property sales were greatest in South Somerset with over 600 properties sold. West Somerset had the smallest number of sales with nearly 200 over the same period. The average property price in West Somerset was £268,561
The median monthly rent recorded between April 2016 and March 2017 in Somerset was £615, compared to £675 in England. Mendip had the highest median monthly rent at £650, and Sedgemoor had the lowest with £595.
