Population Estimates
Each year, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) publishes ‘mid-year estimates’ of populations for national and local areas. These are based on Census data, updated with information from a variety of sources. The latest ‘mid-year estimates’ for mid-2024 were published on 30th July 2025.

- The age bands with the highest population are 55-59 and 60-64.
- We traditionally see a thinning of the ‘pyramid’ in the late teens/early 20’s due to people leaving the county to attend University or to work.
