Recycling
Thousands of tonnes of recycling are collected over Somerset every year, and every tonne is tracked, ensuring that nothing is dumped, burned or ends up at sea. Kerbside rubbish and suitable recycle site rubbish is sent to an energy-to-waste plant in Avonmouth, rather than landfill.

Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of waste on land, contrary to Section 33(1)(a) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Local authorities and the Environment Agency both have a responsibility in respect of illegally deposited waste. Fly-tipping is not only an eyesore, but can be a danger to public health, a source of pollution, and a risk to wildlife. Its is costly to remove, and can undermine legitimate waste businesses.
